There are very few problems within the small business/home computing environment other than hardware failure that does not in someway relate to the Internet. That is the result of the fact that most are always connected and often have not taken the proper precautions, keeping in mind that the responsibility for those precautions does not always rest with the computer owner/operator. ASC intends to commit this space to bringing to your attention those events that may in some way have an impact on you.
The Julie Amero Tragedy -- Here we have a situation where a substitute school teacher has been convicted of "risk of injury to a minor" and is facing 40 years in prison because of events in her classroom that appear not to be of her making and the fact that the computing equipment she was required to use to report attendance was outdated, did not have adequate protection, nor did the school's internet gateway. Fortunately, this case is well documented on the web and rather than being repititious, we will simply point you to other locations that will help you gain an understanding of this case.
I have been interviewed on WTIC AM, 1080, on two occasions...once with "Mornings With Ray and Diane" on Febraury 27, 2007 and once with "Afternoon Drive" with Colin McEnroe. You can hear Colin's interview at http://wtic.com/pages/5478.php and selecting "Colin McEnroe with Bob Johnston" in the left column. Unfortunately, my interview with Ray and Diane was not recorded by WTIC. However, I have obtained a recording from another source and will publish it as soon as I receive a release from WTIC or they chose to post the recording I have on their site.
Our own blog "Comments/Traits/Factors Influencing the Information Security Industry" is a good place to start. There you will find links to other blog entries including "Pop-up Ads Can Land You in Jail" and the "Center for Safe and Responsible Internet Use" where you will find the article "The Julie Amero Tragedy". In addition, you will find a link there to download the entire transcript to your PC which makes a very interesting read.
While this segment of our website is not a true blog, it will regularly change as we present other issues and update the Julie Amero case. Thanks for viewing and come back often. |
